Here you can see a close up of an EF-Hand, the fundamental structural unit of Calmodulin. There are two of these units in bothe lobes of the protein so that it binds up to four Ca2+ ions. Each EF-Hand has a different affinity for the ion and they bind sequentially, the C-Terminal lobe binding first.
